The New Smoky Eye

THE classic smoky eye has had an autumn/winter 2013 update, re-imagined in creamy textures, glossy finishes and bold, monochromatic hues. In fact, for this season it's more of an oily eye than a smoky one, with gently diffused shadow making way for colour blended with glosses or creams and painted in confident swoops extending almost to the brows.

And there's no need for a full eye palette this season - it's all about picking one colour and sticking to it. Think polished chestnut, as at Tom Ford, Roksanda Ilincic and DSquared2; molten metallic burgundy, seen at Gucci; or the oil-slick black that was used for the dramatic looks at Roberto Cavalli, Donna Karan and Lanvin.
